Bosa did not participate in Wednesday's practice after sustaining hip and oblique injuries against the Seahawks on Sunday. These are separate from the injury he has struggled to play through over the last two games.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan was noncommittal when asked about Bosa's outlook for Sunday.
"He definitely could be good for Sunday, and he definitely could not be good for Sunday, so that's why I don't think about it yet," the coach said.
Shanahan added that Bosa's status will become clearer as the week progresses, and the team will discuss the situation then.
Meanwhile, Bosa himself remains hopeful but cautious.
"It gets better every day," Bosa told reporters on Wednesday. "We'll see. Definitely a little early to call it either way, so we'll find out in a few days."
The star pass rusher noted that his left side—the one injured on Sunday—is currently more bothersome than his previously injured right side. When asked how the new injury compares, he admitted, "It's a little more sore, but you never know. Could be good."
The 49ers have two more practices—on Thursday and Friday—before traveling to Wisconsin to face the Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday.
