Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Mason will also practice on Wednesday, though in a limited capacity, meaning he won't participate in team drills.
Mason sustained an AC joint sprain during last week's victory over the Seattle Seahawks. The only other two running backs on the active roster are rookie Isaac Guerendo and veteran Patrick Taylor. Christian McCaffrey remains on injured reserve as he recovers from calf and Achilles tendinitis issues.
Like Mason, defensive tackle Jordan Elliott (knee), wide receiver Deebo Samuel (wrist), and safety Malik Mustapha (ankle) will also be limited in Wednesday's practice.
49ers who will not practice
In addition, both kickers—Jake Moody (ankle) and Matthew Wright (shoulder)—are expected to miss practice. Other players who won't participate are wide receiver Jauan Jennings (hip), defensive lineman Maliek Collins (knee), and defensive lineman Leonard Floyd, who is taking a rest day.
The 49ers will release their official practice participation report after Wednesday's session.
