According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the New York Jets have given pass rusher Haason Reddick and new agent Drew Rosenhaus a "short window" to seek a trade. Yes, that Reddick—the player who effectively ended the 49ers' championship hopes in 2022 by hitting rookie quarterback Brock Purdy's arm during the NFC Championship Game, causing a UCL tear in his right elbow.
Naturally, one of the most suitable trade fits is the Detroit Lions, who recently lost defensive end Aidan Hutchinson to a serious leg injury.
Reddick has been in a somewhat unusual contract dispute after being traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Jets. He recently switched representation to Rosenhaus, a move that could work in the 49ers' favor if they consider pursuing him. Rosenhaus has negotiated multiple deals with the 49ers, including wide receiver Jauan Jennings' recent contract extension.
Reddick is seeking a multi-year deal, whether with the Jets or another team interested in his services. Russini's report comes after the Jets finalized a trade for former Las Vegas Raiders star wideout Davante Adams.
Selected 13th overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2017 NFL Draft, Reddick posted impressive stats last season, recording 11 sacks, 38 tackles (13 for loss), 23 quarterback hits, and one pass defensed in 17 games for the Eagles. With 58 career sacks and four consecutive seasons of at least 11 sacks, Reddick's talent is undeniable.
For a team with a win-now mentality like the 49ers, at least exploring a trade for Reddick would be far from surprising.
