While many safeties are still available, there is a possibility that Tartt fails to gain a significant market, meaning he could be available on a similar, cheap deal that he received from the 49ers last offseason.
If the opportunity arises, should the 49ers re-sign Tartt?
With the safety market being extremely robust this offseason, along with a lack of perceived market as of now, the cost to retain a player of Tartt's caliber could be extremely cheap.
Since he was selected with the 46th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Tartt and Jimmie Ward has been a solid safety duo, making it an intriguing reunion for the two sides should Tartt fail to gain traction in free agency for the second straight year.
In addition, players like Terrell Edmunds, Jabrill Peppers, Landon Collins, Anthony Harris, and Kareem Jackson are still available in free agency, providing the 49ers with options at the safety position.
However, while Tartt certainly has an injury history of his own, the veteran safety provides San Francisco with a player who knows the system well, and who can serve as a bridge option for the 49ers should they desire to draft a safety in the 2022 NFL Draft.
The 49ers played in a multitude of three-safety sets last year and could look to explore a similar scheme with Ward, Tartt, and whoever the 49ers draft at the position to solidify the back-end of their secondary.
The 49ers could offer Tartt an incentive-based deal, especially with the number of roster spots available on the team, providing themselves with flexibility while getting a good player in the process.
