After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that the team is worried that Verrett indeed suffered a torn ACL.
"It's crushing," the coach said. "I'm hoping for the best, but it's crushing. You know the bad luck he's had, and putting together these last two years, staying healthy, how good of a camp he had. We've got a lot of love for J.V. and respect him as much as anyone I've ever been around, so I really hurt for him."
Shanahan added that recently-signed veteran Josh Norman could be a possibility moving forward. He also hasn't eliminated the possibility of bringing back Richard Sherman or making a move for another cornerback.
The only other injuries Shanahan mentioned were to running back Raheem Mostert (knee) and linebacker Dre Greenlaw (groin). Neither returned to the game. Mostert's issue is not believed to be an ACL injury and the team will learn more after it arrives in West Virginia, where the 49ers will stay during the coming week before their Week 2 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
