"We would like to thank Garry for his contributions to the team the last two seasons," said general manager John Lynch via a statement issued by the 49ers. "He filled in admirably when called upon and was a consummate teammate. We wish him and his family all the best."
San Francisco initially signed Gilliam to a one-year offer sheet worth $2.2 million with $1.4 million guaranteed on April 17, 2017, and then signed him to a two-year extension on February 27, 2018. Gilliam made 24 game appearances with one start over the past two seasons, including all 16 games in 2018.
The Seattle Seahawks signed Gilliam as an undrafted free agent out of Penn State in 2014. He has appeared in 68 games with 31 starts over his five NFL seasons.
