SANTA CLARA — Brock Purdy is back in the groove. The 49ers quarterback faced the Tennessee Titans defense on Tuesday and successfully connected with several of his wide receivers and tight ends on the field.
Without Christian McCaffrey on the field, who was sidelined for a second practice with “tightness,” the team’s run game mostly was stifled. Patrick Taylor Jr., Sincere McCormick and Khalil Herbert took hand-offs with Kaelon Black, Jordan James and Isaac Guerendo all still making their way back from injury.
Purdy instead needed to move the ball through the air. The practice included standard team work, red zone, move-the-ball and two-minute drills at the end of the session. Wideout Demarcus Robinson had his best day of camp, catching all five passes thrown his way, including two touchdowns.
Deebo Samuel was involved in the offense as both a receiver and a ball carrier. The “wide-back” made the most spectacular catch of the day — a one handed (left hand) catch as he was running towards the sideline while closely covered by Amani Hooker.
