Chris Foerster, the San Francisco assistant who is filling in while head coach Kyle Shanahan recuperates from a car accident, says the narrative that the 49ers have been devastated with training camp injuries is incorrect.
On the same day that the 49ers ended practice without 20 players, Foerster said his team is actually very healthy, and that players who are sitting out are mostly dealing with the kinds of minor injuries that naturally arise during a tough training camp.
"It seems like we're very healthy. We have injuries and bumps and bruises and guys are missing practices," Foerster said. "If you're not practicing football hard you can get through camp easily without injuries."
Foerster added that the 49ers are "practicing hitting, contact-style of football" in camp.
Injuries have been a major issue for the 49ers in the last two seasons, and an issue they're eager to avoid this year. Foerster says that so far, they are staying healthy, even if it doesn't always look like it on the practice field.
