Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall will undergo season-ending surgery to deal with issues related to the knee injury he sustained early last season, 49ers general manager John Lynch said on Saturday.“He’s gutted. We’re gutted,” Lynch told reporters in Santa Clara. “(He’s a) really good football player, really important member of our team, and an impactful player.”
The 49ers on Saturday placed Pearsall on injured reserve, which created the roster spot used to sign wide receiver Deebo Samuel to a one-year contract, the team announced.
The 49ers are hopeful Pearsall can make a full recovery and be back on the team in 2027, at which point he will be entering the final year of his original four-year contract.
The 49ers selected Pearsall with the 31st overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Pearsall had 16 receptions for 281 yards in the first three games last season before landing hard on his right knee in a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 4.
