The 49ers reacted decisively one day after disclosing presumptive starting wide receiver Ricky Pearsall might be out for a while.Deebo Samuel is coming back to the 49ers.
The agreement was reached with the free-agent wide receiver just one year after the team granted Samuel’s trade request with a deal that sent him to the Washington Commanders. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport was first to report the news of the agreement.
Samuel’s return to the 49ers comes after the team experienced two setbacks at wide receiver in the first two days of practices.
Veteran free-agent pickup Christian Kirk sustained a calf strain that will keep him out of practice indefinitely.
Then, Pearsall experienced swelling in his right knee, which the 49ers say is related to the posterior-cruciate ligament injury that sidelined him for eight games last season. Pearsall, a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, missed 14 regular-season games due to injuries in his first two seasons.
Pearsall also was inactive for the 49ers’ first-round NFC playoff victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. He was in uniform the following week but caught...
