What 49ers hope to gain from their adjusted 2026 training camp practice schedule

SANTA CLARA — In the past, 49ers veterans would miss several training camp practices with rest days to stay fresh, but the schedule is set up differently this season. Offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak detailed how the 49ers will still have the required number of on-field sessions but won’t hold three practice days in a row.

“[The] benefit is that everybody gets to practice every day,” Kubiak said. “We had days when we were doing our traditional three-day block where a lot of vets would be missing that third day to take the workload off of them. The way we are doing it now, is everyone is out there every day.”

With several stars on the team at, or approaching, 30 years of age, the 49ers want to make sure players like Christian McCaffrey, Mike Evans and Trent Williams see the benefit of participation in on-field work.

Wide receivers and defensive backs run multiple deep routes each practice but Kubiak shared it’s not just those positions that will benefit.
