Kyle Shanahan never believed 49ers would trade QB Mac Jones this offseason

PHOENIX — Quarterback Mac Jones did everything possible to put himself back in contention to be an NFL starter.Jones stepped in for 49ers starter Brock Purdy and looked the part while starting eight games last season.And with more than a handful of teams entering the offseason with uncertainty at quarterback, it seemed possible Jones could attract attention on the trade market.But with nearly all those vacancies filled, Jones remains on the 49ers’ roster after signing a two-year, $8.1 million contract a year ago.When asked if there was a point this offseason in which he thought Jones could be traded, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan answered, “No, there wasn’t.”Former Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray is now with the Minnesota Vikings; Atlanta brought in former Miami signal caller Tua Tagovailoa; Miami signed former Green Bay backup Malik Willis; the New York Jets acquired Geno Smith from Las Vegas; and the Raiders are expected to select Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 overall selection.Arizona appears ready to go with Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew, while Pittsburgh is banking on Aaron Rodgers’ return.There seemed to be little interest...
