Ouch: 49ers sustain slew of injuries in preseason win over Cowboys

Many preseason games are unwatchable, but the 49ers' exhibition opener Thursday night at Levi's Stadium was particularly hard to witness. At least it was for those in attendance eager to have the home team reach the regular season in one piece. In a 24-21 win over the Cowboys, the 49ers sustained plenty of notable losses: Five players, including three starters and two key backups, were lost to injuries in the game's first 15 minutes. The wounded were tight end George Kittle (shoulder), inside linebacker Malcolm Smith (hamstring), defensive tackle Solomon Thomas (head), backup running back Matt Breida (shoulder) and swing tackle Garry Gilliam (head).
