49ers host Vontae Davis, 2-time Pro Bowl cornerback

The 49ers hosted free-agent cornerback Vontae Davis, a two-time Pro Bowl pick who was released by the Colts in November after he went public with his frustration over losing his starting job, a team spokesman said. Davis reportedly visited the Bills and Browns before his stop in Santa Clara on Tuesday. The 49ers are very thin at cornerback after starter Ahkello Witherspoon, a 2017 third-round pick who blossomed late in the season, and slot K'Waun Williams, who earned a midseason extension last year. They are not expected to re-sign pending free agent Dontae Johnson, who periodically was benched during games late last year while making 16 starts.
