Quarterback play
Brock Purdy was the game's highest-graded quarterback, finishing with a 64.1 offensive grade and a 65.9 passing grade. He completed 4 of 6 attempts for 29 passing yards during his lone drive of the night.
Mac Jones entered the game after Purdy and completed 6 of 13 attempts for a game-high 89 passing yards. He finished with a 51.3 offensive grade and a 53.8 passing grade.
Adrian Martinez was the only 49ers quarterback to throw a touchdown. He completed 8 of 17 attempts for 57 passing yards while throwing two interceptions and adding a rushing touchdown. Martinez was the game's lowest-graded player overall, earning a 26.3 offensive grade.
Highest marks
Wide receiver De'Zhaun Stribling was the 49ers' highest-graded player (90.5) and tied Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman for the second-highest grade of any player in the game. More on Stribling below.
Rookie defensive tackle James Thompson Jr. was the 49ers' highest-graded defensive player (90.3).
Blocking
Brandon Parker, who played right tackle, was the game's highest-graded offensive lineman (74.5). He didn't allow a single pressure on 15 pass-blocking snaps out of 25 total snaps.
Recently re-signed offensive lineman Nick Zakelj, who played left guard, earned the second-highest grade (72.9) among the game's offensive linemen. He allowed one pressure and one hurry on 20 pass-blocking snaps out of 38 total snaps.
The 49ers' lowest-graded offensive lineman was rookie Carver Willis, who allowed two pressures and two hurries on 24 pass-blocking snaps out of 42 total snaps at left guard. That's a notable turnaround from last week's game against the Tennessee Titans, when Willis was the 49ers' highest-graded player. Against the Chargers, he earned a 41.1 run-blocking grade and a 44.4 pass-blocking grade.
Rookie Enrique Cruz Jr., who played right tackle, tied veteran Austen Pleasants, who played left tackle, for the most pressures allowed in the game with four each. Pleasants was the 49ers' lowest-graded pass-blocking offensive lineman (29.1).
Center Drake Nugent earned the best pass-blocking grade (72.5) among the 49ers' offensive linemen, while right tackle Brandon Parker posted the team's best pass-blocking grade (82.2).
The game's best overall run-blocker was rookie wide receiver De'Zhaun Stribling, who earned an 86.0 grade in the category.
Right tackle Colton McKivitz earned the 49ers' worst run-blocking grade (36.3), while running back Sincere McCormick was the team's lowest-graded pass blocker (29.1).
In total, the 49ers surrendered 17 pressures, with 16 charged to the offensive line.

Wide receiver Jordan Watkins earned a 66.4 receiving grade, catching three of his four targets for 41 yards.
Tight end Brayden Willis was the game's lowest-graded pass catcher, earning a 47.3 receiving grade. He failed to record a catch on two targets.
Wide receiver Jacob Cowing may have flashed on special teams as a returner, but as a pass catcher, he earned just a 58.5 receiving grade, catching two of his seven targets for 14 yards.

Running back Khalil Herbert's 78.9 rushing grade was the game's highest, narrowly edging Chargers quarterback Trey Lance (78.3). Herbert finished with four carries for 17 yards, averaging 4.3 yards per carry.
Rookie running back Kaelon Black rushed for 33 yards on eight carries (4.1 yards per carry) and earned a 71.8 rushing grade. Sincere McCormick led the game with 53 rushing yards on six carries (8.8 yards per carry) and scored a rushing touchdown, but finished with a 67.4 rushing grade.
Zamir White was the game's lowest-graded running back (49.1).
Pass rush
Defensive tackle James Thompson Jr. was the 49ers' highest-graded pass rusher (80.8), although he was credited with just one pressure on 17 pass-rush snaps out of 26 total snaps.
Safety Ashtyn Davis was the 49ers' lowest-graded pass rusher, earning a 38.2 mark. Rookie defensive end Romello Height earned a 54.8 pass-rushing grade.
Defensive end Sam Okuayinonu recorded two pressures, the most among all 49ers defenders.

Pass defense
Veteran 49ers cornerback Jack Jones, who has been a standout throughout training camp, turned in a strong performance against the Chargers. Jones earned the team's best coverage grade (89.9), didn't allow a catch on two targets, and broke up two passes.
The next-highest coverage grade among 49ers defenders belonged to cornerback Deommodore Lenoir (76.8). Renardo Green, the team's other projected starting outside cornerback, earned a 45.1 coverage grade before exiting with an injury.
Linebacker Garret Wallow earned the game's worst coverage grade (29.6).
Tackling
Safety Ji'Ayir Brown earned an 80.7 tackling grade, the highest of any player in the game. He recorded one tackle for a stop.
49ers safety Patrick McMorris earned the game's lowest tackling grade (18.6). However, linebacker Garret Wallow led the game with three missed tackles and finished with a 27.4 tackling grade.
