The San Francisco 49ers held their ninth full training camp practice on Saturday as they continued preparations for the 2026 NFL season.
The biggest 49ers-related news coming out of Santa Clara was head coach Kyle Shanahan surprising everyone by speaking to reporters. It was his first time doing so since he sustained injuries in a July 14 car accident.
Shanahan had a cast on his left hand and still had noticeable bruising on and around his nose. However, the 49ers head coach communicated well and shared that his recovery is progressing well—so much so that he plans to coach in next week's preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans.

It sounds like the 49ers could have their head coach back at full capacity—or very close to it—by the start of the regular season.
The 49ers coaching staff also wore No. 33 on their shirts in honor of legendary running back Roger Craig, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday morning.
Below are some of the key takeaways from the 10:15 a.m. PT practice at the SAP Performance Facility, compiled from multiple media reports.

Offensive notes
Quarterback Brock Purdy threw a pair of pick-sixes, one to cornerback Deommodore Lenoir, who returned the interception the length of the field, and another to cornerback Upton Stout, who returned his about 25 yards.
ESPN's Nick Wagoner reported that Purdy completed 15 of his 22 pass attempts, including a tight-window touchdown pass in the red zone to tight end Luke Farrell.
Rookie wide receiver De'Zhaun Stribling returned to team drills after being limited while recovering from hamstring tightness. He continued to look like the reliable target he had been before his setback and is having an impressive training camp.
Stribling doesn't have any butterflies about his first NFL action, which will come next week against the Titans.
"For me, ball is ball," Stribling said. "I'm going to go out there, do my job, do what I do. I'm excited to be out there and experience it all, but it's not going to stop me from doing what I do and catching the ball."
The 49ers appeared to be experimenting a bit on offense, with quarterback Kurtis Rourke working with the first-team offensive line at times. Rourke had a nice completion to Stribling, and wide receiver Junior Bergen caught a deep pass from the backup quarterback.
Rookie offensive tackle Enrique Cruz Jr. struggled during one-on-one drills, prompting starting left tackle Trent Williams to pull him aside and work with him for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, Connor Colby, who is competing for the starting left guard job, was beaten on most of his one-on-one reps.
Veteran Robert Jones continues to start at left guard and could be unseating Colby as the favorite for the job.
Center Jake Brendel shut down defensive tackles C.J. West and Sebastian Valdez during one-on-one pass-rush drills.
Defensive notes
Linebacker Dre Greenlaw returned to team drills after dealing with soreness. However, defensive end Nick Bosa remains sidelined from practice with soreness. Shanahan didn't sound overly concerned about Bosa's absence.
"He was doing great, and then he got sore just going through some of the individuals," Shanahan said. "I mean, you wish that didn't happen, but no, there's no concern to where something's happened that is a big setback or anything.
"But we're waiting until the soreness goes away and evaluating why the soreness has happened, but I still feel pretty good about that."
Linebacker Fred Warner appears to be in midseason form. He broke up a pass intended for wide receiver Jordan Watkins and scooped up a fumble recovery.
Rookie defensive end Romello Height struggled while going against right tackle Colton McKivitz during one-on-one pass-rush drills. He couldn't get past the offensive lineman and even jumped offsides twice before finally beating McKivitz with a spin move.
In addition to the previously mentioned pick-six, cornerback Upton Stout dove to break up a pass from Purdy intended for wide receiver Demarcus Robinson.
"He plays like he's 6-5," Stribling said of Stout. "He's kind of small, but he plays with unbelievable effort, very strong guy, very good cover skills also."
Cornerback Nate Hobbs had a strong practice, breaking up three passes.
"He is fighting for a spot on the 49ers' 53-man roster," Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area wrote. "Hobbs' top play was a pass breakup at the goal line on an Adrian Martinez pass intended for Will Pauling."
Next practice
The official schedule for Week 4 of training camp practices has not yet been released, though we already know the 49ers will return to the practice field on Monday, August 10, for a session that will be open to fans.
The team is then scheduled to hold a joint practice with the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday, August 11.
