San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa was among the players who joined Bay Area radio station KNBR on Monday morning. The 49ers opened training camp over the weekend, with Bosa participating on a limited basis during Sunday's practice.
Although Bosa has been fully cleared to practice, the 49ers are carefully managing his workload as he continues his return from a torn ACL.
The 49ers made several changes to their defensive front this offseason, including acquiring defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa in a trade. Bosa has already been impressed by what he has seen from his new teammate.
Bosa admitted he first noticed Odighizuwa before they became teammates, likely because the defensive tackle also wore No. 97 during his time with the Dallas Cowboys.
The 49ers star noted that Odighizuwa arrived at OTAs looking slightly lighter, but when the two reunited for training camp, Bosa was surprised by the defensive tackle's physical transformation.
"He shows up to camp, and it looks like he put on 30 pounds of muscle," Bosa said. "He looks like he's 5% body fat and 285. And he's not as tall as you'd expect. He looks taller just because of how broad he is."
The 49ers are counting on Odighizuwa to help solidify the interior of their defensive line, providing a stronger presence against the run while adding another disruptive pass-rushing threat.
"Football-wise, he's made of exactly what we pride ourselves in, on the defensive front here," Bosa said.
Bosa also had high praise for rookie defensive end Romello Height, a third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
The veteran pass rusher was particularly impressed with how quickly Height has picked up defensive coordinator Raheem Morris' scheme and adjusted to the NFL level.
"And then Romello, rookie-wise, I've never seen a guy come in and get the scheme as quickly and seamlessly as he has," Bosa said. "Even when vets come in who haven't played in this scheme, he's gotten it quicker than I did. Just the way he picked it up, it seems like second nature to him.
"And he's super explosive. He's got a bag of tricks in the pass rush that you could tell he's been coached well. And he's a little older, so that might be part of it, for a rookie. But I think he's going to contribute pretty quick."
With Bosa returning from injury and the additions of Odighizuwa and Height, the 49ers are hoping their revamped defensive line can bounce back after a disappointing 2025 season in which the team recorded an NFL-low 20 sacks.
