San Francisco 49ers star tight end George Kittle shared a hilarious offseason story involving head coach Kyle Shanahan during an appearance on the Chris Simms Unbuttoned podcast.
The lighthearted tale centered on a vacation challenge from Shanahan—one that didn't exactly go as the 49ers coach had planned.
"After every year, we go down to Cabo to hang out," Kittle shared. "One, because it's such an easy flight, and two, they have great golf courses down there that I really, really enjoy. This was probably like four or five years ago—we're golfing with Kyle at his golf course, and I think it's just me and my wife, and then him and his wife and their kids."
According to Kittle, the group was enjoying a round of golf and a few drinks when Shanahan unexpectedly challenged the All-Pro tight end to a fight—and Kittle had no intention of backing down.
"I think it's like hole 15 or 16, he was like, 'I think I could take you in a fight.' And I was like, 'Really? You think you could take me in a fight, Kyle?' He's like, 'Yeah, I think I could.' And I'm like, 'All right. Bring it.'
"And he kind of like rushes me, and I pick him up, and I put him over my shoulder, and I walked him down—because it was a par 3 on the ocean—I walked him down to the beach, and I put him in the ocean."
Kittle couldn't resist adding one final jab, joking that Shanahan should probably stick to coaching football.
The story offered a humorous glimpse into the close relationship the two have built during their time together in the Bay Area.
