The San Francisco 49ers released their first unofficial depth chart ahead of the 2026 NFL season. It's important to note that the 49ers Communications staff compiled the depth chart, and it is not typically reviewed by the coaching staff, which will ultimately have the final say on player roles.

Still, it's always interesting to see where certain players are positioned on the depth chart.



Interestingly, the unofficial 49ers depth chart lists veteran Robert Jones as the starting left guard. There is an open competition for the position, with young players such as Connor Colby and Carver Willis also in the mix. However, Jones has been getting the vast majority of the first-team reps in training camp.

At wide receiver, the depth chart lists Mike Evans at one starting spot, as expected. Demarcus Robinson and Deebo Samuel are listed at the other starting receiver position, with Christian Kirk and rookie De'Zhaun Stribling listed as backups.

In the backfield, rookies Jordan James and Kaelon Black are listed together as Christian McCaffrey's backups.

On defense, Keion White is listed as the starting defensive end opposite Nick Bosa, with rookie Romello Height listed as Bosa's backup.

Luke Gifford is listed as the third starting linebacker alongside Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw. Meanwhile, Ji'Ayir Brown and Malik Mustapha are listed as the starting safeties.


Of course, the unofficial depth chart is subject to plenty of changes before the regular season begins. With position battles still underway and the preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans approaching, the 49ers' depth chart should continue to evolve in the coming weeks.
