San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy ranks among the NFL's top 10 quarterbacks, according to Bleacher Report's NFL 1000. The annual evaluation grades quarterbacks across six key traits—accuracy, processing, arm talent, decision-making, leadership, and pocket presence—using a 100-point scale.

Purdy landed at No. 10 overall, falling in the publication's second tier of quarterbacks, labeled "Pro Bowl Caliber." The only NFC West quarterback ranked ahead of him was the Los Angeles Rams' Matthew Stafford, who claimed the No. 1 spot. Purdy also finished five spots ahead of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold.

Purdy earned his highest marks for leadership, accuracy, and processing, while arm talent and decision-making received his lowest scores.

"Brock Purdy is an established starting quarterback with plenty of postseason experience, including leading the 49ers to the Super Bowl," the Bleacher Report scouting department explained. "He played in only nine games last season due to multiple injuries. Purdy's proven to be the near-perfect quarterback for Kyle Shanahan's system. His game thrives on throwing with outstanding anticipation, accuracy, and timing.

"Purdy is an above-average athlete with good pocket quickness to create for himself whenever he senses pressure. He plays with immense heart and toughness, earning him a place among the NFL's winners.


"Purdy is a physically limited quarterback; he's on the shorter side of the height spectrum, and his arm strength is only average. His decision-making declined under heavy and consistent pressure last season. He's the prototype for high-end game manager and point guard-styled QB archetypes; you can win with those styles if your roster is built properly."

Mac Jones earns "Reliable Contributor" designation


Purdy's backup, Mac Jones, ranked No. 21 among NFL quarterbacks and was placed in Bleacher Report's "Reliable Contributor" tier.

Like Purdy, Jones received his lowest score for arm talent. Pocket presence was another area where he graded lower, while his processing and accuracy stood out as strengths.


"Mac Jones will miss the mark and won't check most of the physical boxes, like arm strength/talent, size, and athleticism," the Bleacher Report scouting department explained. "If given a quality offensive line, an offensive scheme, and a reliable supporting cast, Jones can make things work and win football games. He displayed that last season in relief for injured Brock Purdy in San Fran.

"Jones started eight games and played well enough to keep the 49ers' playoff hopes afloat. His processing quickness and accuracy mesh well with Kyle Shanahan's offensive scheme, which highlights the mental superpowers of his quarterbacks. Jones will not raise the ceiling of the team's offense, but he can lift the floor a bit higher."

The rankings reinforce why the 49ers remain confident in their quarterback room. Purdy continues to be viewed as one of the league's better starters thanks to his leadership, accuracy, and command of Kyle Shanahan's offense, while Jones provides one of the NFL's more capable backup options if called upon.
