Okoronkwo, 31, spent last season with the Philadelphia Eagles after playing the previous two seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Before joining Cleveland, he spent time with the Los Angeles Rams and Houston Texans. Okoronkwo was drafted out of Oklahoma by the Rams in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL draft.
The veteran pass rusher has 17.5 sacks over his eight-year NFL career, including 7.5 sacks during his two seasons with the Browns. He recorded 4.5 sacks in 2023 and another three in 2024. His best season was in 2022 when he had five sacks with the Texans. Okoronkwo had no sacks last season, but only appeared in one game for the Eagles.
Okoronkwo would bring some experience to a 49ers defensive front that has undergone some changes this offseason. San Francisco has star defensive end Nick Bosa leading the way, while the team will continue to rely on several younger players and additions to provide production opposite him and along the defensive line.
On Saturday, undrafted rookie Makail Kamara was carted off the field with an apparent knee injury. The team's working out Okoronkwo could be a result of that injury. On Sunday, the 49ers announced they had waived/injured Kamara.
