The San Francisco 49ers are among those teams.
Vea reportedly requested a trade after contract extension negotiations with the Buccaneers stalled. The veteran defensive tackle would be a major addition for a 49ers defense looking to improve its interior pass rush.
NFL Media's Kevin Patra recently listed the 49ers as a potential landing spot for Vea, and Fowler's reasoning for including San Francisco is similar.
"San Francisco has already swung a trade for an interior lineman, sending a third-rounder to Dallas for defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa in March," Fowler wrote. "But both of its edge rushers (Joey Bosa and Mykel Williams) are coming off injury. Manufacturing a pass rush is a must (the 49ers were last in the NFL with 20 sacks last season), and Vea has 11.5 sacks over the past two seasons."
Vea appeared in all 17 games for the Buccaneers last season, recording 34 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 13 quarterback hits, and 4.5 sacks. His seven sacks in 2024 marked a career high, and the 31-year-old defensive tackle has totaled 35 sacks across eight NFL seasons.
"The 49ers are another 3-4 front team that is loaded with cap space (around $71 million)," Fowler continued. "And for the first time in a long time, San Francisco isn't faced with having to pay an in-house star, as its core pieces are secure contractually."
Fowler also noted that Vea's connection to the Bay Area could make San Francisco an appealing destination. He was born in nearby Stanford, California, and attended high school in Milpitas, California.
With the 49ers competing in the same division as the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams, who are viewed as a Super Bowl LXI favorite, continuing to strengthen the defensive line could be a priority.
Adding a player of Vea's caliber would represent a significant investment. Still, few are ruling out general manager John Lynch making an aggressive move if the opportunity arises.
