Cummings divided his quarterback rankings into seven tiers, with Josh Allen standing alone in Tier 1.
The following six quarterbacks make up Tier 2:
- Lamar Jackson, Ravens
- Drake Maye, Patriots
- Jayden Daniels, Commanders
- Joe Burrow, Bengals
- Jalen Hurts, Eagles
- Dak Prescott, Cowboys
Purdy headlines Tier 3, which also features six quarterbacks:
- Brock Purdy, 49ers
- Jared Goff, Lions
- Jaxson Dart, Giants
- Trevor Lawrence, Jaguars
- Justin Herbert, Chargers
- Caleb Williams, Bears
It's worth noting that fantasy football rankings are based on projected 2026 production and don't necessarily reflect who the NFL's best quarterbacks are.
Cummings has previously identified Purdy as one of his top value picks for the 2026 fantasy football season—a quarterback who likely won't require an early-round selection but has the potential to deliver elite production.
"He was QB1 on a per-game basis after Week 17 last year and ranks as QB4 on a per-game basis over the last three weeks," Cummings wrote.
While Purdy is expected to come off fantasy draft boards after the initial run on quarterbacks, Cummings explained why the 26-year-old offers significant upside.
"The 49ers QB has 470 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns in his last 24 games," Cummings wrote. "Adding that on top of the fact that he has been arguably the most efficient passer in the NFL since he came into the league, and you have yourself a surefire QB1 with top-five upside.
"Sound like hyperbole? Since Purdy's rookie season, 30 QBs have thrown at least 1,000 passes. Purdy ranks first in yards per attempt (8.6) and success rate (52.4%). He ranks second in touchdown rate (6.2%) and passer rating (104.0). He also ranks fourth in Fantasy points per game (22.18)."
Entering his fifth NFL season, Purdy has thrown for 11,685 yards, 84 touchdowns, and 37 interceptions. The 49ers also strengthened his supporting cast this offseason by adding Mike Evans and Christian Kirk in free agency and selecting De'Zhaun Stribling in the draft, giving Purdy even more weapons and potentially setting the stage for a highly productive season.
