The San Francisco 49ers added eight undrafted free agents following the 2026 NFL Draft, and one analyst believes he's already identified the best fit.

The Athletic draft analyst Nick Baumgardner highlighted one undrafted player to watch for each NFL team, naming former Indiana defensive end Mikail Kamara as the standout fit for San Francisco.


"Kamara (6 feet, 250, with sub-32-inch arms) does not have NFL size, and he's not very fast," Baumgardner wrote. "He does, however, have terrific short-area quickness with outstanding hands and a high-powered motor that never seems to slow down."

While Kamara lacks prototypical size, he maximizes his traits. His quick get-off and natural leverage allow him to challenge taller offensive linemen—qualities that likely appealed to the 49ers during pre-draft evaluations. He'll need to prove that those traits translate to the NFL level.

San Francisco's defense could also create an opportunity for Kamara. Under new defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, the unit may lean into more versatile fronts and deeper rotations, increasing the need for high-energy contributors along the defensive line.

Kamara produced in college, with his best season coming in 2024, recording a career-high 10 sacks and 68 pressures while earning an 88.5 pass-rush grade from Pro Football Focus. Although his sack total dipped to two in 2025, he still generated 59 pressures and posted a solid 75.5 pass-rush grade.

He has also been reliable against the run, earning at least a 75.6 run-defense grade in each of his final three college seasons.


"He constantly got the job done at Indiana (and at James Madison before that), be it rushing inside or off the edge," Baumgardner added.

With the 49ers looking to keep core contributors like Nick Bosa fresh, opportunities could emerge for a young, high-motor prospect like Kamara.
