The San Francisco 49ers would undoubtedly have interest in Las Vegas Raiders star defensive end Maxx Crosby. The real question is whether the price to acquire him would be too steep.

Crosby's relationship with the Raiders has strained, fueling speculation about a potential split. Still, he remains one of the NFL's premier edge rushers, and Las Vegas would demand significant compensation in any trade discussions.


If they do trade him, the Raiders might eye a Micah Parsons-type return after watching the Dallas Cowboys receive two first-round picks and a player from the Green Bay Packers in last year's blockbuster deal. However, ESPN insider Adam Schefter poured some cold water on the idea that any team would meet that asking price for Crosby.

"I was told that the Raiders don't want to trade [Maxx Crosby], and if they even contemplated it, then it would take a Micah Parsons-type package. That's what I was told," Schefter said on Philadelphia area radio station 97.5 The Fanatic while discussing a potential Crosby-to-Eagles scenario. "Do I think they are getting two firsts and a player? No. Do I think they want to trade him? No. Do I think he'll be traded like A.J. Brown [could be]? That'll change by the week."

Schefter added clarity on what it might realistically take to acquire Crosby if his relationship with the Raiders isn't repaired.

"Any deal involving Maxx Crosby, I would think for the Raiders to make that deal, would take a first-round pick at minimum," Schefter said.


For the 49ers, adding Crosby would immediately elevate a pass rush that managed just 20 sacks last season — the fewest in the NFL. It would also finally pair Nick Bosa with another elite edge defender, potentially creating one of the league's most formidable duos.


Crosby has recorded at least 10 sacks in four of his seven NFL seasons, including three of the past four years. He owns 69.5 career sacks and has consistently ranked among the league's most disruptive defenders.

San Francisco currently holds the No. 27 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and owns six additional selections within the first four rounds. That total could grow once compensatory picks are awarded.

The draft capital exists to make a serious offer. But with multiple roster needs entering the offseason, the 49ers must weigh whether sacrificing premium picks for one player is the right move — especially after their aggressive 2021 trade-up to draft quarterback Trey Lance failed to produce.

If Crosby becomes available, the 49ers will likely explore the possibility. The bigger question is whether they're willing to meet the Raiders' price.
